Hiring a private tutor can greatly impact your child's confidence and overall academic performance. But how do you know when to make that call?

Sign #1: Failing Grades
If your child is consistently bringing home D's and F's, you might want to speak to a teacher to better understand your child's academic issues, and then contact a tutor.
Sign #2: Falling behind in school
If your child's grades have suddenly dropped and he/she has expressed a lack of interest in school, don't hesitate to contact a tutor. Delaying this step will only worsen and prolong their learning issues, which will eventually cause your child to lose confidence in their ability to get back on track.
Sign #3: Being 1 or more grade levels behind on diagnostic reports
If your child's recent diagnostic assessment shows that they are one or two grade levels behind, you will need to make an immediate decision to get your child the academic help they need. Talk to the school about getting your child signed up for reading and/or math interventions. And then, set up a consultation with a local tutor who specializes in academic growth for struggling learners. Each year the child doesn't get the help he/she needs, they fall an additional year behind.
Sign #4: Not knowing all alphabet or letter sounds by the beginning of kindergarten
If your child cannot say or recognize all 26 of their alphabet nor their sounds by the beginning of kindergarten, they may need one-on-one support so that they don't struggle with reading all year. Reading foundational skills give students the foundation to learn to read, and students are expected to do so by the end of kindergarten. If students are still learning their alphabet in kindergarten, they're already significantly behind.
Sign #5: Not knowing how to count or recognize numbers
If your child is struggling with numeracy, at home and school, don't fret. A private tutor can give them the assistance they need to excel in their math studies.
Sign #6 Excelling in class/Needing a challenge
A lot of people tend to think that tutoring is just for students who have fallen behind, but if your child is excelling in school and simply needs that extra challenge to support their curiosity and their desire to learn more, don't hesitate to hire a tutor. a tutor can create fun, meaningful lessons centered around your child's interests and abilities so that they don't lose interest in school.
